Pomlazka

For several centuries, Czech Easter has included the custom of whipping girls and women with the handmade pomlázka (willow whip). Boys and men whip their girls and women with willow whips so that they stay healthy and young for a long time. This happens on Easter Monday when boys and men visit their neighbors with the pomlázka, singing Easter carols, and in return they receive decorated eggs, a coloured ribbon for the pomlázka, something sweet or something stronger (a shot of schnapps).
