Abissa

Celebrated each year by the "Nzima" people in Grand-Bassam (Côte d'Ivoire), Abissa is a cultural and rejoicing festival. In a compact crowd men and women march and dance rhythmically around the sacred drum in order to celebrate the new year. Beyond the cultural aspect, this festival is an opportunity for the N'Zima families to meet around their leader to denounce unjust actions or to confess them publicly as part of a request for forgiveness.
